About ORE

The Office for Rural Education at Western Carolina University was established in the academic school year of 1984-85 by House Bill 1376, Chapter 1116, Section 24 for the statutory purpose "to identify and address the unique education problems of the public schools in the rural areas of the State." The service area of the Office for Rural Education at Western Carolina University includes all of the educational agencies throughout the 49 western most counties in North Carolina.
